Good news for those of you who wanted to check out Rage Against the Night but don't have an ebook reader - you can now pick up a hard copy.

Profits benefit award-winning writer and HWA President Rocky Wood, who is battling motor neurone disease.

You can pick up a copy from Amazon, B&N and Mysterious Galaxy. You can, of course, still grab a copy of the ebook, for $3.99 from Amazon and Smashwords.

Last-minute gift idea! Rage Against the Night charity anthology

Rageagainstthenight

Merry Christmas everyone. If you've forgotten the horror-lover in your life, grab them a copy of the Rage Against the Night anthology. All proceeds go to current Horror Writers Association president Rocky Wood, who is battling motor neurone disease.

Featuring Stephen King, Peter Straub and more. (I also managed to sneak a story in there!)

Here's the official spiel:

Under the onslaught of supernatural evil, the acts of good people can seem insignificant, but a courageous few stand apart. These brave men and women stand up to the darkness, stare it right in the eye, and give it the finger. These are the stories of those who rage against the night, stories of triumph, sacrifice, and bravery in the face of overwhelming evil.

Here's where you get it:

Amazon (Kindle): http://www.amazon.com/dp/B006P18LM2/
Smashwords (multi-format ebook): http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/116718

Please support this book. I'm honoured to be a part of it, and Rocky really needs a helping hand.

'Dead Air': out now in ADFaH3

Today I received my copies of Australian Dark Fantasy and Horror vol 3, which features my short story "Dead Air".

As usual, Brimstone Press has done an excellent job, and I'm not just saying that because Angela chose to reprint one of my stories!

In fact, it's a great reminder of some of the excellent tales I read while judging the Australian Shadows Award in 2007.

The following tales jump out at me when I scan the table of contents: Rick Kennett's creepy ghost story "The Dark and What it Said"; Matthew Chrulew's dystopic love story "Between the Memories"; Jason Nahrung's "Kadimakara and Curlew" and David Conyer's "Subtle Invasion".

A heap of great, if somewhat disturbing, memories there.

Meanwhile, Chuck McKenzie has given me a mention in his review of ADFaH3, over at HorrorScope...

Gary Kemble’s ‘Dead Air’ ... was really just a big, fun, Hollywood-style zombie flick in prose format

Yep, that's exactly what I was going for!

'Dead Air': Australian Dark Fantasy & Horror 2009

Angela Challis emailed me yesterday to tell me that my zombie story "Dead Air" will be reprinted in Australian Dark Fantasy and Horror 2009.

"Dead Air", first published in Zombies, tells the story of an undead freakout on-board a 747 en route from Los Angeles to Brisbane.

I'd like to thank Zombies editor Robert N Stephenson who, firstly, picked up the story and, secondly, gave it a kickarse ending.

As all emerging writers will know, feedback from editors is vital to honing your skills.

I'd also like to thank Robert Hood. I almost didn't write the story because I was worried it might be too similar to a film that was in production about the same time I had the idea.

Rob had some sage words of advice for me, which gave me the motivation to continue with the story.

YB Fantasy and Horror: honorable mention for 'Dead Air'

I just found out (although the information has been around for a while), that my short story 'Dead Air' received an honorable mention in the 21st Year's Best Fantasy and Horror!

It's a huge honour to be mentioned in an anthology edited by Ellen Datlow, Gavin Grant and Kelly Link (even if it is only a passing mention).

You can check out 'Dead Air' in Zombies, edited by Robert N Stephenson.

The zombies are coming!

(Check out the non-blogger'd version of this pic here)

Robert N Stephenson's Zombies anthology is on its way - set for a December 1 release... just in time for a very zombie Christmas.

My local paper, Westside News, interviewed me this week, and we did a photo shoot out at Toowong Cemetery.

(I offered them the above pic, but they were worried about copyright issues, since the zombies are courtesy of The Zombie Diaries).

Zombies features my story "Dead Air" about a zombie outbreak on-board a 747 en route from LAX to Brisbane.

You can buy the anthology here.

Zombies and night terrors

Got paid today for "Dead Air", a short story that will appear in Robert N Stephenson's upcoming zombie anthology. It's the first time I've been paid for something before publication. The anthology is slated for a September release.

Also just found out that my ultra-short story "Night Terrors" will appear in the Black Box charity e-anthology (Brimstone Press), alongside such dark fiction luminaries as Will Elliott (the 2006 Australian Shadows winner), Lee Battersby, Paul Haines and more.
